An effective response to emergencies depends upon robust preparation. An informed and prepared community is a safer community!
Tadcaster Flood Action Group
After December 2015 we are prepared for the future, working with North Yorkshire County Council Emergency Planning, Selby District Council, Environment Agency, Yorkshire Water, NYCC Highways and local blue light services to prepare and prevent flooding where possible.
We have been established for over four years, developed skills to predict when risks are high, continually improve response tactics, maintaining communication and worked in unity.
Since Boxing Day 2015, the group received generous donations from the Masons, Heineken Brewery and local businesses. This funding allowed the group to purchase two tow-able “Hilta C100 Flood Pumps,” allowing fast deployment in the event of immanent risk. The pumps are stored at either side of the river with an ability to move 60,000 gallons of water per hour to help alleviate the effects of surface water flooding in the Town.
Along with the pumps, the group has a 24/7 camera on the Wharfe in Tadcaster accessible through “http://www.farsondigitalwatercams.com/locations/tadcaster_bridge” powered by Power Plus. Donations were kindly given: personal protective equipment, HF radios and storage locations for the pumps by Coors Brewery and Northern Cladding.
The group has distributed flood prevention packs for businesses and residents who were affected by the floods and are in the process of organising water safety buoys for the riverbank to improve water safety in the Town.
Important Note: This group is not intended to replace the response that would normally be provided by the emergency services and local authorities. If there is an immediate threat to life always call the emergency services first 999.
Flood Fair 2016
We would like to thank everyone who made the first Tadcaster Flood Fair a success. Without the help of The Environment Agency , Flood guard uk, The Flood Advisory Service, Flood Divert, NYCC bridge reconstruction, Yorkshire Water, Environment Agency, NYCC planning team, Farsons Digital Water Cams, Sky Captain… And a special thank you to the York Rescue Boat team for their ongoing support and training for the group. (pictures available soon)
The group is always recruiting volunteers. All of our registered volunteers are given training in the use of equipment, this also includes training from the York River Boat crew.
River Watch Camera
We have invested in an early warning and monitoring system for the town in the shape of a digital river watch camera. The camera has all the advantages of a 24 hour eye on the river and can be monitored from anywhere with internet access. You can take a look at the river levels anytime by just clicking on the link below.
